Governance Institute of Australia announces leadership transition

After six years of dedicated leadership, Megan Motto has announced her decision to step down as CEO of Governance Institute of Australia.
Chair Pauline Vamos has expressed the Board’s deep gratitude for Ms Motto’s contributions, highlighting the Institute’s transformation under her leadership.
“Under her leadership, along with the efforts of her team and our members, Governance Institute of Australia has evolved into a professional body and an institute of higher education, forming a strong community of governance professionals,” Ms Vamos said.
“Megan should take pride in the way she has united the profession, significantly enhancing our education and accreditation services, and strengthening the voice of governance.”.
Reflecting on her decision, Ms Motto acknowledged that stepping down was not easy but that the timing was right for both her and the Institute.
“I’m incredibly proud of what the Institute has achieved over the last six years and I am confident that it is well placed to flourish over the years ahead,” she said.
She also expressed her gratitude to Governance Institute members and volunteers, recognising their critical role in the organisation’s success.
“Our members and volunteers are the backbone of our success, and I have so enjoyed working with them on so many issues over this time.”
While Ms Motto will be stepping away from the CEO role, she will remain an integral part of the governance community as a member.
To ensure a smooth leadership transition, the Board has appointed Katrina Horrobin as Interim CEO, effective from Monday, 31 March. Katrina is a distinguished senior leader with extensive experience in business strategy, innovation, and change management.
Her career spans multiple industries, including IT, telecommunications, superannuation, education, not-for-profit, and member associations. She has a proven track record of ensuring stability and continuity during leadership transitions, driving business growth, and achieving significant results.

Governance Institute looks forward to welcoming her to the team, ensuring the organisation continues to thrive during this interim period. The Board appreciates the continued support of its valued members, subscribers, students and staff.
