Expression of Interest (EOI) Data Governance Project – White Paper (2026)
Project Purpose
Organisations are facing growing expectations around how data is governed, managed and leveraged — including regulatory scrutiny, emerging technologies (including AI), and rising stakeholder expectations.

The purpose of this project is to:
- Identify leading practice in data governance frameworks
- Explore practical governance challenges and trade-offs
- Provide board and executive-level guidance that is actionable and relevant
- Contribute to the national conversation on responsible, transparent and accountable data use
Scope and Key Themes
The white paper will address key issues including:
- Board oversight of data governance
- Roles, responsibilities, and accountability structures
- Data governance frameworks
- Policies, standards, and operating models
- Risk, compliance and assurance
- Privacy, cyber risk, regulatory obligations, and data misuse
- Data ethics and trust
- Transparency, fairness, and responsible data use
- Data and emerging technologies
- Intersections with AI, automation and digital transformation
- Operational challenges
- Data quality, ownership, interoperability, and lifecycle management
Opportunities for Participation
Participants can contribute in several ways, including:
- Joining an expert advisory working group
- Preparing short written contributions (e.g. 500–1,000 words)
- Participating in roundtables
- Reviewing and validating draft outputs
Contributors may be acknowledged in the final publication.
