Tim Sheehy Inducted into the Associations Hall of Fame
The prestigious Associations Hall of Fame induction ceremony was held at Marvel Stadium in Melbourne.
We are excited to announce that Tim Sheehy has been inducted into the Associations Hall of Fame in 2024. This prestigious recognition honours individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to the association sector over a long period.
Tim Sheehy, a distinguished governance professional, recently stepped down as the Director General of The Chartered Governance Institute (CGI) after nine years. During his tenure, he introduced the Chartered Governance Professional designation, developed CGI’s global voice in thought leadership, and streamlined membership pathways.
The induction ceremony took place at the Association Awards dinner on 7 November 2024, at Marvel Stadium in Melbourne. The event celebrated excellence and accomplishment by associations and outstanding individuals.
Tim was appointed as the inaugural Director-General of CGI in 2015. He played a pivotal role in modernising CGI’s structure and strategy, benefiting over 30,000 members worldwide. His initiatives included updating the education curriculum, refreshing CGI’s brand, improving governance, and establishing new communication channels.

CGI Global has appointed Kerrie Waring as the new Director General.
CGI Global, the Chartered Governance Institute, has announced the appointment of Kerrie Waring as the new Director General. With over 25 years of corporate governance experience, Ms. Waring brings a wealth of knowledge and leadership to the role. She previously served as Chief Executive Officer of the International Corporate Governance Network for ten years and has held significant positions at the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales and the UK Institute of Directors. Ms. Waring will succeed Tim Sheehy, who stepped down on 30 November 2024, after nine years of leadership.
John Heaton, CGI Global President, expressed his enthusiasm for Ms. Waring’s appointment, highlighting her extensive international experience and dedication to good governance. He noted that her expertise would be instrumental in developing CGI’s global strategy and expanding its reach.
Ms. Waring’s responsibilities will include promoting the importance of Chartered Company Secretaries and Governance Professionals, expanding membership, and driving innovation across CGI’s international qualifying scheme. Her appointment marks a new chapter for CGI Global as it continues to uphold the highest standards of corporate governance worldwide.
Governance Institute of Australia State Council Reappointments
In other news, the Governance Institute of Australia recently held its Annual General Meeting. We are pleased to announce the reappointment of Helen Hardy for a second term of three years as the NSW State Representative. Additionally, Debora Jackson has been appointed for a three-year term as the QLD State Representative, following her service in a casual vacancy. Congratulations to both Helen and Debora on their appointments.
