CapabilityPro Frequently Asked Questions

CapabilityPro is a reliable self-assessment tool for individuals and organisations to evaluate their proficiency in the 21 capabilities within the Governance Capability Framework. The tools uses questions to assess a person’s proficiency level across three domains: Governance Principles, Personal Thinking and Professional Practices. Upon completion of the questionnaire, CapabilityPro generates a report, that identifies the courses or programs best suited to address your specific capability needs.

Depending on education, life experience and skills, individuals could easily be working at an Established level in one specific capability, while being at the Emerging or Expert level at another.

Emerging

Those at the emerging level are continuing to develop foundational knowledge, skills, and behaviours to perform tasks within the capability area. They seek to understand core principles and technical information to apply to their practice.

They contribute meaningfully to their organisations by following established processes and procedures and can take the lead on specific initiatives when working within defined parameters.

Established

Those at established level possess a breadth and depth of understanding of the knowledge, skills and behaviours required within the capability area and can articulate and apply them in various contexts with confidence.

They demonstrate a high level of independence, initiative, and ownership in their work, exercising good judgment in increasingly complex and dynamic environments and proactively seek solutions to challenges that arise.

They are trusted advisors to their colleagues and serve as role models to less experienced governance professionals. They are alert to external influences that may affect their organisation.

Expert

Those at expert level possess advanced understanding of the knowledge, skills and behaviours required within the capability area and are recognised as subject matter experts within their organisation or industry. They have a comprehensive grasp of both theoretical underpinnings and emerging trends, enabling them to integrate new developments seamlessly into their practice.

They are self-directed and proactive and play a valued part in shaping the trajectory of their organisation, influencing strategic decisions, and driving meaningful change and progress. They are frequently consulted and often lead highly complex initiatives.

They actively mentor other governance professionals, both within their organisation and externally. They are seen from outside their organisation as leaders in governance.

CapabilityPro has been aligned with the 21 capabilities of the Governance Capability Framework that sit across the three domains: Governance Principles (What I do), Personal Thinking (How I think and behave) and Professional Practices (How I work).

Sign up or login

The link will ask you to sign into our site, if you do not have an account, you will be prompted to create one by clicking onto the following sign up link.

Once signed in, you will be prompted to select CapabilityPro and to add it to your basket and proceed with payment. On verification, you will receive a link to the portal and we suggest that you bookmark it, with your favorites.

You can review and edit your responses ahead of submitting your assessment.

Given that we live in busy times, you are able start your assessment, save and pause and return to the questionnaire at a later point in time.

On completion of the questionnaire, you will receive an email notification and link the portal, where you will have access to your report online. Your report will be available under the Reports, simply click on download to view your results.

We recommend that you download or print your report so that you have a copy that you can refer to. You will have access to your CapabilityPro report online until 31 December 2025.

The assessment has set instructions on how to complete. Take your time to read each of the instructions and how to answer. The questions are designed for people your age and it is unlikely that the questions in this assessment will cause you discomfort. All personal information you enter during the assessment must be true and correct. Completing all the questions gives the best chance of the assessment being reliable.

You are not permitted to make copies of any of the questions that appear on your screen during the assessment or pass on answers or any related information about the content of this assessment to other parties.

Governance Institute have partnered with Psych Press to develop the questionnaire. Any information that is collected on this portal that can identify you will be treated as confidential, and the report generated from this assessment is only able to be seen by yourself and those who are authorised and who are bound by strict ethical guidelines about maintaining your confidentiality.
