President’s commentary: Fresh and independent thinking

As I write from the Greater Sydney lockdown and in the twilight of my time as President, is it odd to start by talking about gratitude? Hopefully not.

I want to express my sincere gratitude to members for your support of the governance improvements we have been working on. On 20 July 2021, the Special Resolution to change the Constitution was resoundingly supported (94.8 per cent). The engagement and encouragement from members during the review and implementation was noticed and very welcome. Thank you!

This leads me to some reflect on ‘perspective’ as a governance professional and more fundamentally as a citizen. I recently attended an engaging virtual conference (a pivot from an Australasian event in Singapore), run by Credit Suisse, which featured a keynote from actor and philanthropist Matthew McConaughey. He talked about keeping perspective as most Americans (and Australians) are challenged by COVID-19 and lockdowns.
