On 17 October 2017 the government announced the appointment of James Shipton as full-time chair of ASIC for a five-year period commencing 1 February 2018.
Mr Shipton is currently leading a research centre at Harvard Law School where he is the executive director of the Program on International Financial Systems. He has a background in law and banking and brings wide regulatory and market knowledge as well as international experience in London, Hong Kong, Singapore and the United States.
Greg Medcraft, the current chair, steps down from his role on 12 November. Peter Kell, the current deputy chair, will be the acting chair from the time Mr Medcraft’s term ends to when Mr Shipton commences in February.
