Governance Institute of Australia has appointed Mark Wilbourn as National Director of Education and Training, where he will be responsible for world leading, member-facing and client-centric professional education and training offerings.
“We are delighted to have Mark join the team,” said Governance Institute chief executive Mr Steven Burrell. “Mark has over 20 years’ experience in higher education both in the UK and Australia. He has extensive experience in contemporary approaches to teaching and learning which is critical when developing sophisticated education and training offerings for governance and risk professionals determined to be at the top of their game,” he said.
Before joining Governance Institute, Mark was Director, Education and Training at the NSW Institute of Psychiatry. During this time the Institute of Psychiatry transitioned to become the mental health portfolio of the Health Education and Training Institute (HETI), under the direction of the Mental Health Commission of NSW. Mark had a lead governance role in HETI gaining registration as a higher education provider and accreditation of masters courses in mental health.
“Governance Institute has an excellent reputation as a champion of strong governance practices across all layers of an organisation,” said Mr Wilbourn. “I am confident that I have the skills, experience and passion to work with the team to ensure that we are developing and delivering the best possible education and training options for governance and risk professionals to equip them for a successful and fulfilling career.
“My commitment is to ensure that Governance Institute is offering those interested in a career in governance or risk management the best education and training options in the country. I’m also keen to advocate for widespread recognition in the broader community that good governance and risk management is not just for listed companies. It is equally important to the success of small and Not-For-Profit organisations. Good governance is good for business, it doesn’t matter what that business is,” Mr Wilbourn said.
