Charitable giving in Australia not wasted
In a call aimed at getting rich Australians to donate more on the basis of improved return for the philanthropic investment, the CEO of JBWere Australia has called for consolidation in the sector. But the report is based on a series of incorrect assumptions. At a time when the charity sector needs support, due to decreases in government funding while governments simultaneously outsource more services to the sector, the misleading report provides an inaccurate picture of the charity sector that is not helpful for those considering donating.

Industry super fund governance review not released
A review and code of governance of the not-for-profit superannuation industry led by former RBA Governor and Treasury Secretary Bernie Fraser, which was due to be operational by now, has not been released. Industry Super Australia (ISA), which commissioned the review with the Australian Institute of Superannuation Trustees (AIST), has advised that a decision had been take to defer the release of the review’s report and recommendations until after the election.

Reform of governance in sport
The Australian Sports Commission (ASC) has released a paper to support ongoing governance reform that calls for sports to take a unified approach to behaviour, processes and supporting systems. Building trust and national cohesion, while improving sports’ commercial and financial positions, are the key objectives of the next stage of governance reform led by the ASC.
