    The Federal Government has released its response to the Final Report of the Murray Financial System Inquiry (FSI), accepting all but one of the FSI’s 44 recommendations. The only recommendation it did not take up was that superannuation be banned from borrowing for investments.

    Alan Evans, the 2014 President of Governance Institute of Australia, has been awarded the 2015 Climate Alliance Leadership Award as Company Secretary of the Year. The Climate Alliance Business Leadership Awards recognise Australian business leaders and organisations that have demonstrated leadership by addressing the opportunities or risks presented by climate change.

  • Proxy adviser releases annual survey results

    Proxy adviser Institutional Shareholder Services (ISS) has released the results of its annual global voting policy survey. ISS uses the responses to update its voting policies. Many of the issues covered in the survey are particular to the United States (such as proxy access) or other jurisdictions, but other issues apply more globally, such as director overboarding and equity remuneration for non-executive directors.

  • Companies strangling in regulation and red tape

    The results of a recent survey by Deloitte, Directors’ Cut, showed that the most significant issue affecting board effectiveness in the past year was the perceived burden of complying with government policy and regulation. The 50 chairs and CEOs from leading Australian companies were of the view that the impact of government regulations and corporate red tape is preventing decision-making and the capability to be agile, and as a consequence holding back levels of productivity.
