Short selling not the only problem


While the Australian Securities and Investments Commission’s (ASIC) decision to ban short selling is to be commended, the regulator should also take this opportunity to protect shareholders from a lack of information concerning directors and executives who hold a substantial number of shares in a company that are subject to a margin loan.

Stakeholders reluctant to extend voting beyond the AGM


There is little support from major stakeholders for legislative changes to the annual general meeting (AGM), according to the responses to a recent discussion paper jointly published by Chartered Secretaries Australia (CSA) and Blake Dawson. The responses did, however, encourage companies to do more to make AGMs a forum for constructive discussion within the existing legal framework.
