The right membership for you

We have three levels of membership available and three pathways to membership. Discover which is right for you with our simple two-step guide.

Step 1: Which membership do I need?

  • If you are student or aspiring governance or risk management practitioner looking to enhance or expand your knowledge — you need Certificated membership.
  • If you are a mid to senior-level governance or risk practitioner with at least six years’ experience — you need Associate membership.
  • If you are a mid to senior-level governance or risk practitioner with at least eight years’ experience— you need Fellow membership.

Step 2: Which pathway is right for me?

i) Entry via a Governance Institute Certificate

If you complete a Governance Institute Certificate, you will automatically be invited to become a Certificated member. Becoming a Certificated member gives you access to all of our member resources and grants you a nationally recognised postnominal GIA(Cert) you can use to fast-track your career.

ii) Entry via Governance Institute postgraduate education

If you complete postgraduate education with us, you will automatically be invited to become an Associate or Fellow member depending on your level of work experience.

Becoming an Associate or Fellow member through our expertly designed postgraduate courses grants you access to all of our amazing member benefits, and also gives you a nationally recognised postnominal to advance your career.

*If you complete the Graduate Diploma of Applied Corporate Governance and become a member you will also be granted automatic membership to the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators (ICSA) where you gain internationally recognised postnominals of ACIS or FCIS and the title of Chartered Secretary.

iii) Entry via our Professional Entry Scheme (PES)

If you have governance or risk management experience and have completed a relevant tertiary or undergraduate course elsewhere, you may be eligible to become either a Certificated, Associate or Fellow member.

*Industry qualifications such as GAICD, RMIA-endorsed Palladin Diploma of Risk Management and Business Continuity, Advanced Diploma of Governance Risk and Compliance, Certificate IV in Risk Management or Diploma in Risk Management, GRCI Certificate IV in Compliance and Risk Management, Graduate Certificate in Risk Management.
**Tertiary qualifications include BBus, BCom, BEc, LLB, MBA or other courses
Alternatively you may hold a designation which requires similar tertiary qualifications or equivalent study in governance or risk management, such as (but not limited to) RMIA Certified Practising Risk Manager (CPRM) or Certified Chief Risk Officer (CCRO), GRCI Certified Compliance and Risk Professional (CCRP).
