Volunteer governance opportunities

Governance Institute is pleased to offer a complimentary web listing service for Not-for-Profit organisations requiring assistance in their governance practices. Many NFP organisations would benefit from help from qualified Governance Institute members and we encourage members to offer their support.

NFP organisations currently requiring assistance:

Northern Children's Network Inc.based in Launceston, Tasmania, is seeking Board Members to assist with governance and strategic leadership particularly financial, marketing and management experience. Your commitment will include monthly meetings (last Thursday of each month) at 6pm at NCN's Head Office for about 2-3 hours, special meeting(s) and annual general meeting. Members are expected to commit to reviewing materials including monthly financial statements and reports, supporting/mentoring of organisational staff, and assisting with marketing and management when needed. For further information or to apply please contact Eric Gooi, ericgooi@outlook.com. So Brave Ltd, based in Brisbane, Queensland, is seeking a volunteer Company Secretary who may be located anywhere in Australia. So Brave’s mission is to empower young women diagnosed with breast cancer, raise awareness and educate young women to be breast aware and fundraise for breast cancer research. Your commitment will include preparation of board packs, attend (via video conference or in person, depending upon your location) and minute monthly board meetings (out of business hours on a weekday) lodge forms and assist with the AGM. Logan East Community Neighbourhood Association (LECNA) is seeking expressions of interest for a General Management Committee Member with particular fundraising and marketing experience. We are a large, place-based community centre located at Springwood, QLD, delivering around 35 services, programs and groups to local community. We have been around 31 years and we go above and beyond to build better lives in community. We have 9 staff and around 40 volunteers. We have a great, pro-active board, but are seeking someone particularly with community fundraising experience who could support us to effectively reach our goals. The Management Committee meets monthly in person, on the last Thursday evening of every month and is required to oversee the compliance of the organisation, reviewing reports and budget etc. We are able to arrange online meetings from time to time if required, but face to face meeting are preferable. Explorability Inc., based in Perth, Western Australia, is seeking a Company Secretary, with an appropriate background and/or experience, to join our Board. Explorability Inc. is a for-purpose disability organisation that provides individual advocacy for people with disability, their families and carers, in Western Australia. The Board meets once a month, alternating between in-person (in Melville) and virtual meetings. The position is voluntary, and an NDIS Worker Screen and Police Clearance are required. Yoga Australia, based in Melbourne, is seeking a volunteer Company Secretary to assist with fulfilling its compliance and governance responsibilities. This role can be performed remotely from any location.  Your commitment will require attendance at bi-monthly board meetings held virtually. The main responsibility of the role is to maintain records of the board in accordance with Corporations Act requirements and ensure effective management of Yoga Australia’s governance documents. It is preferable that applicants hold a Graduate Diploma of Applied Corporate Governance and Risk Management. Bayside Community Emergency Relief (BCER), based in Melbourne, VIC, is seeking a volunteer Company Secretary to assist with developing strategic board agendas, taking board minutes, supporting organisational governance and compliance, and assisting with planning and strategy sessions. Your commitment will include approximately 6 board meetings per year, normally on a Thursday evening from 7pm–8:30pm held online or in person in the Bayside area of Melbourne when possible.
