Change in circumstances?
If your circumstances have changed, you may be eligible to change to a retired membership or a reduced fee rate.
Retired membership
Retirees receive a discounted membership rate and are exempt from CPD requirements.
To be considered for the retired rate, you must:
- be fully retired from employment and will not be returning to paid employment
- have a nil personal exertion income(income derived directly from the effort of a person).

Reduced fee rates
Special considerations are available for a range of reasons including:
- unemployment
- significant health/illness-related issues
- severe financial hardship
- unpaid parental leave
- moving overseas.
Reduction rates can vary from 25 – 75% of your membership fee depending on your individual circumstances.

The Chartered Governance Institute membership
Request for transfer (out) of membership to another Division of The Chartered Governance Institute
By requesting a transfer of membership to another Division, you must relinquish your Governance Institute membership.
The only transferable qualification is ACG or FCG. You may be charged a fee and/or be required to complete a transfer exam by the other Division once your membership is transferred.
Request for transfer (in) of membership from another Division of The Chartered Governance Institute to Governance Institute of Australia.
For Governance Institute of Australia to accept a transfer of membership:
- you must have permanent residency in Australia
- be a current financial member of your current Division in ‘good standing’
- possess the status GRAD, ACG or FCG
- may have to pay a fee to complete the transfer, depending on the renewal cycle of your current division.
Are you an ICSI member?
There is Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators (ICSA) and the Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI).
If you are a member of ICSI you may be eligible to be admitted to The Chartered Governance Institute membership. ICSI members can only be admitted to membership in the Australian division, through the MOU, if they are permanent residents or citizens of Australia.
