Virtual discussion group: Company Secretaries VIC
Harnessing AI to Enhance Transparency in Modern Slavery Reporting
Modern slavery affects an estimated 50 million people globally, prompting governments to implement legislation like Australia's Modern Slavery Act. These laws require corporations to report on their supply chains, but analysing these reports at scale remains a challenge. Project AIMS (AI against Modern Slavery) aims to develop AI solutions to benchmark these reports, providing open-source data for stakeholders. This session will explore the state of modern slavery in Australia, the evolution of relevant legislation, and how AI can enhance transparency and accountability, ensuring corporations are celebrated and held responsible for their anti-slavery efforts.
Adriana Eufrosina Bora will be our guest presenter to address “Harnessing AI to Enhance Transparency in Modern Slavery Reporting”. Adriana is an AI researcher and PhD candidate with the Queensland University of Technology Centre for Data Science. Adriana is working to use data science and artificial intelligence to track and prevent slavery and exploitation.
Recognized as one of the 20 Rising Stars in AI Ethics in 2022, Adriana was also awarded the UNESCO International Research Centre in Artificial Intelligence (IRCAI)'s AI Award in 2021 for her pioneering efforts in developing AI solutions to combat modern slavery.
