“Red’s not dead” – How risk registers can lie to you if you let them

Description – Despite the sometimes-enthusiastic discussion in forums such as LinkedIn regarding risk registers, they remain a staple in the life of leadership wanting to understand the business risk register. They are served up by well meaning risk managers wanting to meet their executives need for a view on the risks the business is dealing with.

Often risk registers are qualitative in nature, albeit informed by metrics arrived at through interpreting the narrative into a qualitative measure often to reflect the consequence measure used in the heatmap construct. But there are things to watch out for and in this discussion I will talk to the pro’s and con’s of risk registers – and help get you to a point to understand that “red’s not dead” and to help explain what else to look for in your register, and see some of the things to focus on.

And if time permits have a sneaky look at a new way to articulate risks in a register that isn’t limited to a strict likelihood and consequence position.

Bring your thoughts to the table. Join your risk management peers for an informal roundtable exchange of ideas and practical advice.

This is your unique opportunity to discuss current trends and issues in your role and an excellent opportunity to build your risk management network.
