Explore the role of the company director and the board’s vital contribution towards organisational culture and sustainable governance in our virtual Effective Director Course, drawing on theory, practice and the collective knowledge of the participants to simulate the boardroom experience.
Support your understanding of the role of the director and the board with a focus on the soft skills required to be an effective director in the boardroom environment.
Uniquely based around one hypothetical case study to support your practical learning, our Effective Director Course gives you the unique opportunity to practice your director questioning skills, explore effective board and executive engagement and view the inner workings of a board.

After attending the course, you will:
- Walk away with practical tools and tips on how to be an effective director.
- Understand the frameworks and the theory behind best practice director communication.
- Learn about executive engagement and how a board operates and makes decisions.
- Participate in a boardroom simulation and practice your director questioning skills.
- Understand how a director and board acquires information.
- Receive tips from an executive recruiter on how to acquire a board role.
- Gain valuable personal insights from the facilitators and meet a practising non- executive director on how to find board roles and thrive as a director in the boardroom.
The course materials will be provided for pre-reading 10 days prior to the start of your course. Assessment consists of reflective written responses to each of modules 1 to 3.
How is this course delivered:
Attend this virtual (live Zoom) Effective Director Course over 2 weeks (3 afternoons per week) with the facilitators and your peers.
Networking opportunities are provided throughout the course as we put you into groups and work through the hypothetical case study together.
Facilitators are senior governance and risk professionals with executive and/or non-executive experience who have worked across a number of sectors/industries. They will guide you through the course materials and activities.
Over the two weeks, you will complete the program which is outlined in the table above and will be held Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday on:
- Week 1: 3 – 5th December
- Week 2: 10 – 12th December
