The Australian Stock Exchange (ASX) is one of the leading security exchanges in the world and plays a vital role in Australia's economic and financial stability. As a regulatory body, the ASX requires listing companies to comply with its Listing Rules, Operating Rules, and Market Integrity Rules.

Although the ASX Listing Rules (LR) only apply to public listed companies, the objectives and principles underlying them promote best practice corporate governance, and are relevant to organisations across all industries and sectors.

This course:

  • outlines the role, objectives, structure and operation of the ASX and its Listing Rules
  • identifies and examines ASX continuous and periodic disclosure obligations
  • identifies and examines obligations of listed companies in relation to corporate governance
  • identifies and examines other Listing Rules requirements, such as transactions with people of influence, documents, fees, meetings, trade halts and waivers
  • recognises what makes a successful listing.

ASIC and ASX have provided guidance, class waivers and concessions, on a temporary basis, to facilitate capital raisings and member meetings of listed companies during the COVID-19 health crisis. The amendments will be discussed in this session and are detailed in an addendum to the course notes.

View the course outline here.
