Modern Slavery

Modern slavery describes situations where coercion, threats or deception are used to exploit victims and undermine or deprive them of their freedom.

Governance Institute supports fundamental human rights as set out in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and core International Labour Organisation conventions.

We recognise our responsibility to respect human rights in our operations and supply chains, and are committed to identifying and mitigating the risks of modern slavery and human trafficking occurring within our business operations and supply chains.

Governance Institute and its members strongly support the Australian modern slavery regime. We consider the regime an important step towards eradicating modern slavery in Australia’s supply chains.

In addition, we hold our members accountable to our members code of ethics. They must act with integrity and in the public interest, as well as respond to non-compliance with laws and regulations.

As a membership organisation of committed governance professionals, we do not manufacture any products, rather, we provide professional services, events and content.

Having considered the risks of modern slavery in our operations and supply chains, we have identified that our risks lie primarily in our suppliers, including IT products and services, conference merchandise, employment agencies and office supplies.

We endeavour to ensure that our third-party suppliers have considered their modern slavery obligations consistent with Australian law and are conducting the necessary modern slavery due diligence measures.

This statement has not been formally submitted to the Australian Border Force but is available on our website to provide information about our supply chain risks and to voice our strong support for the eradication of any forms of slavery.
